Kenes Exhibition’s first Biometrics event, held at the Dan Panorama Hotel in Tel Aviv, is no doubt the foundation for a regular annual meeting. Taking to the stage and sharing knowledge, information and updates, were several international leaders in the biometrics field, two diverse panel discussions and some bright young start-up company presenters. The scientific program was appreciated by participants and visitors alike and networking during breaks was an added advantage for all.

The Conference program identified actual problems and questions about the newest biometrics products, tools and engines, and about the new directions in biometrics and how rapidly the field is expanding in all walks of life ranging from hi-tech to fashion. One of the key topics discussed during the meeting was the necessity and constant rethinking and retesting involved to protect the individual or the company against fraud and identity theft. The open forum gave members the chance to raise particular issues or concerns they would like addressed.

Snippets taken from the event:

► Speaker: James L Wayman, Research Administration, USA California
“Biometrics is about recognition – a face is linked to a subject in the database and the search will verify a claim regarding the item and face. It is not verification identity as the program would not  necessarily know anything about the individual – only aim is to recognize involvement”

► Panel moderator: Dr. Nava Shaked, Engineering Faculty, Holon Institute of Technology
“We claim that if we embrace multimodality into biometrics solutions and applications, we will be able to leverage and overcome some of the challenges and some of the issues that we are dealing with.”

► Panellist speaker: Eli Jacobson, Designer and consultant – Expert in the fields of wearable tech, IOT and fashion tech.
“My meeting point is trying to merge technology with human needs and humans. We play with fabrics and electronics and try to make them “see-less” (blend in)

► Company Pitch Presenter: Tzachi Afriat – FST Biometrics
Mr. Afriat gave an interesting live electronic identification demonstration, showing examples of both confirmation of an identity and detecting a fraudulent identity.

► Acting Director of the Israel Standards Institute, Ilan Carmit: “The rapid development of biometrics is a great challenge for companies and organizations who want to integrate the new technology”.
