Experts brainstorm on impending GDPR
Hyderabad, December15, 2017: Students of Hyderabad schools demonstrated a level comprehension of cyber space and the unfathomable risks underlying the valuable benefits it offers, impressing the global experts gathered at the International Cyber Security Conference 2017.
Twenty five top schools from the city vied to make a presentation of skills at the global meet on cyber security and on Friday teams from selected five schools got a dream opportunity to take the stage and address the experts.
Students from Oakridge School, Delhi Public School, Samasthi School and Chirec International School made impressive presentations on how to exploit the cyber space while dodging the known and unknown risks. The schoolchildren’s views on cyber hygiene, netiquette, knowledge of vulnerabilities ranging from cyber bullying to identity theft drew repeated rounds of applause from the distinguished audience.
“We were floored by the enthusiastic response from the schools and the students awareness levels on playing it safe in the cyber world. This is true to Hyderabad’s reputation as Cyberabad and we can rest assured that there would be an abundant supply of talent for the industry in the coming years,”said Prema Zilberman, General Manager of Kenes Exhibitions, organisers of the two day global conference.
Experts gathered at the event brainstormed on the impending Global Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), due to take effect on May 25, 2018. “It’s high time that Indian industry gets into top gear to be GDPR ready because the very continuity of business hinges on compliance to the new regulation, said Eli Zilberman Caspi of Konfidas, Israel. “The risk of losing business or suffering reputational damage are real in case of non-compliance. It is imperative that the industry adheres to the new norm if it wants to achieve the ambitious revenue targets set for year 2020, Zilberman added”.

Hyderabad students are planning to protect society from cyber attacks
HYDERABAD: Students of class IX and X from Hyderabad are planning to play a key role in protecting society from cyber attacks and behaving more responsibly in cyberspace.
Students from Oakridge and Chirec International schools participated in India’s leading cyber security conference organised by Kenes Exhibitions India at HICC Novotel Hotel.
Manav Kaithan, a class X student of Oakridge International School, said, “My field of interest is Artificial Intelligence and Deep learning, but cyber security can be applied to these disciplines. One part of the world is developing at a fast pace.
And then there is the other part which is just catching up. There needs to a balance in cyber security space. We are vulnerable to attacks as is evident from the election process. We need to follow some cyber hygiene.”
Rohan G, a IX standard student of Chirec Inter-national, said that more than basic knowledge is required. “People should be aware of the Dark Web and things like Blue Whale. Simple GK is needed in today’s world. Being aware of these activities also opens career pros-pects in cyber security,” he said.
Students were excited to get insights into the Dark Web, Ransomware, nuances of hacking and phishing. Having realised the vastness of this space, they want the community at large to be smarter about cyber security.
The curriculum of international schools includes robotics and programming. Consequently, students are intrigued about what’s happening in cyberspace.
Prema Zilberman of Kenes from Israel said, “We were taken aback by the way in which these kids responded to our queries on cyber security. They were on par with some experts. We want them to learn to identify and report threats in a safe and timely manner. They should know how to protect themselves from basic cyber attacks.”
About 24 students were selected for the conference. Some of them will be giving power point presentations at the conference on Friday in front of industry experts.
